Human connection is like magic
After cooperating with the Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association for more than 2 years, I am grateful to have received the full assistance of the colleagues of the association every time, so that every activity can be carried out smoothly. I don’t know what kind of magical power is, although each event has different members to participate, but I always feel that in each activity, the commitment of members is faster and warmer every time, and the trust and cordiality between everyone are higher and higher every time, and they are moved more and more every time.
On July 5 this year, shortly after the start of the activities of Down’s members to perform magic, twist balloons and stretch healthily, the members were already very engaged and volunteered to help us as magic assistants with our magic interaction. And some of our magic tricks conjure up gifts for members to make them feel like they’re not just enjoying the show, but really participating in the whole magic show.
In the applause and laughter after each magic trick, I felt that they could really enjoy the event and truly live in the moment.
And the enthusiasm of the balloon twisting session is beyond doubt. Each member is attentive to learning how to twist balloons into dolls with their mentors. Some even create their own and enjoy it. The help of the volunteers is of course invaluable. They worked together with the members to twist and create, and each balloon became a small DIY gift carefully created by the members, which is not a unique product that can be bought on the street, which is meaningful.
Plus, healthy stretching exercises led by yoga instructor Mitchell. With the help of the volunteers, the members worked hard to twist their bodies and carefully cooperate with the instructor’s instructions. Some members who were too willing to be depressed ended up stretching together with the help of volunteers, which made the atmosphere quite cloudy and harmonious.
Finally, what touched me the most was when everyone sang the sign language song “Let the Love Pass On”. I felt that the volunteers and members at that time seemed to be one and the same, and everyone was in an atmosphere of love and care, regardless of you and me. Some volunteers and members were also moved to tears, which made me feel that this is when volunteering is most meaningful.
At the end of the event, some members will clamored to take photos with our magicians, mentors and volunteers. Some even offered to exchange Facebook. The kind of trust and friendship that can be built in just over an hour of activity makes me feel more magical than the magic we have changed.
Thanks to the cooperation of the staff of the association, the event was successfully completed. I hope to cooperate with the Tang Club again in the near future to bring more joy to more members.
