Jockey Club Down Syndrome Centre
Starting from July 2025, the centre will continue to serve the community on a self-financing basis. Through case follow-up, group training, community education and other approaches, we aim to help adults with Down syndrome establish healthy lifestyles and delay the onset of premature ageing.
Target Service Users
1. Persons with Down syndrome aged 12 or above;
2. Parents and caregivers;
3. Volunteers and community members.
Service Introduction
Down Syndrome Ambassadors
Through ongoing training and representing the association in various voluntary duties, the “Down Syndrome Ambassadors” provide opportunities for community members to interact with our members, thereby deepening mutual understanding. This helps to promote the positive image of the “Down Syndrome Ambassadors” and achieve the goal of community inclusion.
Down Syndrome Swimming Team
Established in 2008, the Down Syndrome Swimming Team currently has 16 members (10 males and 6 females).
Objectives:
- To enable team members to make continuous progress in swimming techniques, physical fitness, personal endurance and discipline through long-term training;
- To cultivate the interest of individuals with Down syndrome in swimming and promote their physical and mental well-being;
- To enhance team members’ confidence and sense of achievement through participation in various local and international competitions, encouraging them to take on challenges and fostering sportsmanship.
Recent Update:
<<12th World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships>>
In November 2026, the association will send 7 elite swimmers from our Down Syndrome Swimming Team to Portugal to compete in the 12th World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships. The team members are currently undergoing intensive training covering technique, physical conditioning and mental resilience enhancement, striving for outstanding results.
Arts and Interest Development
Under the Jockey Club Down Syndrome Centre offers a diverse range of arts and interest classes.
Diverse Arts Programmes: Past and current courses cover modern jazz dance, painting, handicrafts, cooking, Taekwondo, African drumming, vocal training and musical theatre, among others. Led by professional instructors, these classes allow members to learn and create in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
Showcase of Achievements: Members’ talents are not only displayed in the classroom but also presented to the public through large-scale events organised by the association, such as original musicals and inclusive art exhibitions. These platforms help demonstrate their abilities and promote social inclusion.
