COVID-19 is still sweeping across the globe and the influence of the epidemic, the daily life of some disadvantaged members and their families are seriously affected. In consider of their needs, “We Deliver Meal & Love” was started in between May to June with the cooperation of our partner, The Upper House, free meal boxes were delivered for sharing love and support in this harsh time. We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for walking with us and sharing their love with our members and those in need.

The Association applied for the COVID-19 Emergency Fund from the Jockey Club in late of February successfully. HK$248,600 was granted to support the “HKDSA Care4U” project for purchasing masks and hand rubs to 900 family members so as to relieve their urgent needs as well as express our care to them. In this project, the regional networks from parents of children with Down Syndrome also sent caring ambassadors to help distribute the anti-epidemic materials and work together to fight against the virus!

We celebrate the World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) in March every year! In view of the outbreak of COVID-19, we couldn’t organize an on-site community education event this year. However, we decided to show our positive energy to the society actively and share the mutual support through social media as well as echo the theme of WDSD — We Decide. With the sponsorship from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, “Stay Strong, We Decide” — the Most LIKE Photo Contest was organized in March. A photo with text from our members were shared in HKDSA Facebook Fanspage so as to share their anti-epidemic tips and cheer up for ourselves, family and friends as well as to show the care on both physical and mental health. Up-keeping positive energy and stay healthy even under epidemic! How to respond to this epidemic? Let you decide!

In view of the situation of COVID-19 Infection, as well as the safety and public health consideration. The Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association announced the cancellation of the Regional Flag Day (Kowloon District) held on 1 Feb 2020 (Saturday). Nevertheless, with the support from donations and 1 Love Red Pocket event, more than HKD180,000 was raised and such donations will directly go to the development of our self-financing projects, such as sports and art services for our direct beneficiaries that is people with Down Syndrome and other disabilities.

It was really nice to meet and gather at the beginning of the year! The Annual Lunch Meeting cum Inauguration ceremony of the New Executive Committee was successfully held on 11 January 2020 at ClubONE Riviera Shatin under the joyful atmosphere. On that day, the event was kicked-off by an African drum Ensembles, dancing and Taekwondo performances which were energetic and rhythmic. Audiences did enjoy with cheers and big applause. The luncheon was started after the toasting by President of the Association, Victoria Tang Owen, Acting Director, Mrs Sylvia Lee together with a New Executive Committee. All family members enjoyed the meal as well as greeting and chatting with each others. We all look forward to walking with all walks of life and experience various beautiful things with family with people with Down Syndrome.
