The naming ceremony for The Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association Jockey Club Tiptop Training Centre was held on 27 June. The Association was deeply honoured to have the following distinguished guests serve as Guests of Honour: Ms. Wong Wai-han, Ada, District Social Welfare Officer (Sha Tin) of the Social Welfare Department, Ms. Sally Chow, Senior Manager of Charities of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Mrs. Victoria Tang-Owen, President of the Association and Mr. Chor Wai Hing, Keith, Chairperson of the Association’s Executive Committee.
The ceremony also attracted representatives from numerous social welfare organisations in Hong Kong and Macau. Following the ceremony, the Centre held an open day. Guests toured the newly enhanced centre, and the public education workshops received an enthusiastic response. Participants expressed that the activities helped them gain a better understanding of the working capabilities of individuals with down syndrome and other disabilities, as well as the comprehensive services provided by the Centre.

On 21 March this year, World Down Syndrome Day, the Ladies’ Recreation Club (LRC) held its annual swimathon. Eleven members of our Down’s Swimming Team joined swimmers from the LRC to complete an hour-long swimathon, raising $379,308.5 in donations for our Association.

All funds raised will be allocated to support the development of our swimming programme, including training, equipment, and competition expenses. From 30 October to 7 November this year, seven swimmers from the Down’s Swimming Team will travel to Portugal to compete in the 12th World Down Syndrome Swimming & Artistic Championships.

We would like to once again express our gratitude to the LRC for their long-term support, which enables our Down Syndrome swimmers to unleash their potential and achieve their dreams.

Our Integrated Vocational Rehabilitation Services (IVRS), in its seventh year of collaboration with The Upper House HKG, one of the world’s top 50 hotels, is organising The Upstairs Programme “Hotel Training and Internship Programme 2026,” and is now recruiting participants.

If you are interested in exploring hotel internship opportunities and meet the following criteria, please register on or before 29 May (Friday) (participants must pass an interview):

• Individual aged 18 or above with Down Syndrome or other disability;
• Must be the IVRS member of The HKDSA (immediate application is welcome upon submission of required documents);
• Possess basic communication skills and be able to travel independently to and from the internship location; and
• Intend to seek open employment.

Through a series of media interview, four parent members shared their experiences of raising their children with Down Syndrome, helping the public understand more about the unique aspects of each Down Syndrome family.

We are excited to share that the annual Tennis Charity Cup at Discovery Bay Recreation Club (DBRC) was held to raise funds for local NGOs, and we are honoured to be one of the beneficiaries.

On the event day, the tennis teams gave their all, fiercely competing for the championship and delivering an incredible show of skill and sportsmanship.

Jockey Club “DS POWER” Holistic Wellness Support Project – Sharing Seminar cum Members’ Workshop was successfully held on June 7. On that day, we invited the responsible research team of the project, including Professor Sam Chan Tsz Chung from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at The HK Polytechnic University, our professional advisor Mr. Kenneth Liang, and our occupational therapist, Dr. James Lee, to share research findings and conduct training demonstrations.

Two carers of members with Down Syndrome who joined as intensive cases, were also invited to share their experiences of how the program alleviates caregiver stress while enabling the Down syndrome community to better equip themselves for addressing early aging issues.

Recently, the LRC hosted its annual swimathon fundraising event, where 12 members of the Down’s Swimming Team joined with 56 swimmers from the LRC in this charitable event. Together, they completed 274,367 meter and raising over $180,000.

The funds raised will be directed towards enhancing the Down’s Swimming Programme, covering training, equipment, and competition expenses. This summer, the team has been invited to compete in the Special Olympics swimming competition in Macau, and also to participate in the Hong Kong Special Olympics event in November.
