The Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association, in collaboration with Hong Kong Players Limited, performed the famous fairy tale Cinderella in English at Grappa’s Cellar in Connaught Plaza, Central on 6 April 2016. Among them, seven Hong Kong people with Down syndrome aged from 7 to 33, after more than three months of art and drama training, singing and dancing with gorgeous costumes, were able to step onto the stage and confidently present this classic fairy tale to more than 100 audiences.

Seven-year-old Fang Yanli is the youngest actor in the middle, adding a new role to Cinderella. On stage, he is fully engaged, singing and dancing, playing a cute little tiger, and his mother Karen said that dialect theory can effectively improve his concentration and observation by participating in the performance. Marie Jane, who plays Cinderella, felt stressed during the three months of preparation, but learned how to deal with her emotions.

Kwan Man-sze, a registered social worker of the Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association, hopes that the mini-series Cinderella will not only bring happiness and progress to the performers, but also let the public appreciate the talents of people with Down syndrome through the miniseries, deepen the public’s knowledge and understanding of them, and promote social inclusion. Part of the proceeds from the ticket of this event will be donated to the Down Syndrome Association for service development purposes.
