Without proper daily oral care, studies show more than 50% of persons with Down syndrome will suffer early loss of tooth after the age of 35, significantly impacting their appearance, quality of life and social acceptance. Studies also show that early introduction of good oral hygiene is the most effective strategy in preventing this situation. In light of this , besides setting up an Oral Hygiene Teaching Unit in the Jockey Club Down Syndrome Centre, to operate a “Preventive Oral Hygiene – Practical Programme, HKDSA further launched online programme, “Superhero”, to encourage young adults to adopt oral care as an important life skill.

To overcome the lack of motivation for oral hygiene among persons with Down syndrome and other special needs, Dr. S. C. Lee, dental advisor to the Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association (HKDSA), approached film production company Odeon Media for support. After numerous brainstorming sessions, Odeon Media assigned film director Ian Hui to direct a cheerful and entertaining music video to encourage persons with Down syndrome and other special needs of all ages to treat tooth brushing as a fun thing to do, and understand the importance of this life skill.

In turn, Odeon Media invited renowned record producer Alvin Leong, music composer Jimmy Fung, and lyricist Ben Chung to compose the song, Shaw Studio provided its filming studio for the production, with The Farm taking charge of post-production. Through HKDSA, Odeon Media invited Kandy Wong to star in this Music Video. After seven months of preparation and rehearsals, a joyful and lively health motivational Music Video was born. Their vibrant performance is aimed at raising the awareness of teenagers — especially persons with Down syndrome and other special needs — to practice good daily oral hygiene, also encouraging them to develop a daily tooth brushing habit, enabling everyone to have healthy tooth and beautiful smiles in our inclusive society.
