321 mandarin duck socks

People with Down syndrome usually have an extra pair of chromosomes 21. The shape of the socks is similar to the chromosomes, and this combination that does not fit into a pair is like a pair of colorful mandarin duck socks, which has become a marker for people with Down syndrome. In fact, as long as we change the degree, a pair of mandarin duck socks with different patterns or colors can still be worn together, showing that diversity, possibility, inclusive beauty and a new perspective on things!

New Year, Mandarin Duck Socks Together

The Association has been approved by the Social Welfare Department (Public Subscription Permit No. FD/R036/2019) to hold a flag-raising event in Kowloon on 1 February 2020 (Saturday). In line with the theme of the Association’s annual fundraising and public education activities – Mandarin Duck Socks Together, the Flag Day will also feature the theme of Mandarin Duck Socks, distributing messages that people with Down syndrome and Mandarin Duck Socks have their own unique colors. To coincide with the Flag Selling Campaign during the Lunar New Year period, the Association designed a Chinese New Year Red See Packet Set to be presented to donors as a token of appreciation* and held the “1 Person, 1 Red See Campaign” to encourage everyone to donate a red see letter to support the Flag Selling Campaign. The funds raised from the Flag Sale will be used to sustain self-financing service development, including physical and artistic development programmes for people with Down syndrome and other disabilities, with a view to improving the quality of life for them and their families.

In response to World Down Syndrome Day - Mandarin Duck Socks Day

Since most people with Down syndrome have one extra chromosome 21, the United Nations General Assembly announced that 21 March will be designated as World Down Syndrome Day from 2012 to raise public awareness and advocate for the rights of people with Down syndrome.

In response to this theme, the

Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association will

organise “Mismatched Socks Day” on 20

March

2020

, the day of World Down Syndrome Day, to engage organisations, schools and the general public from different sectors to raise public awareness and advocate for the rights of people with Down syndrome. Encourage the public to support people with Down syndrome.

The Association also welcomes everyone to upload their “socks photos” on social networking sites and tag them #HKDSA and #WDSD及 #lotsofsock to attract public attention.
